     After reading this book, I realize that I have to be thankful for my life. This book is about a little girl who is struggling to survive during the Nazi’s occupation in Copenhagen, Denmark. The girl has to protect one of her Jews friend from the Nazi’s soldier. At last Annemarie and her friend, Ellen, have to separate in order to survive.

   I like this book because it has a very strong message about appreciating life and I am thankful that we were not born during the Nazi’s occupation. There are some metaphors used in this book. ‘The fire gleefully began to devour the cloth’(page 6) 'mama was crying, and the rain made it seem as if the whole world was crying’(page.41) ‘the meadow ended at the sea, and the gray water licked there at damp brown grass flattened by the wind and bordered by smooth heavy rocks’ (page.61) and at last we have ‘the tree’s and bush’s closed around her’. The lessons I get from this book are: we have to appreciate our life more, because lots of people are suffering out there. We also have to be thankful that we don't have to experience life during the war time where bullets are flying  and blood everywhere. Even though we are not in the war, we still have to face "war” in our mind, heart and spirit.

   If I have to rate this book from 1-10, I give 10. This  book has inspired me a lot by encouraging me to study harder and it also tells me to face the reality with braveness. I recommend this book from pre-teenagers and teenagers who don’t appreciate their life and  face some obstacles in their life.

  So I encourage young readers to give their time to read this fascinating book. This book will inspired them too!
